6 Critical Questions Concerning Our Purpose for Life

Dear Reader,

Are you looking for true meaning and happiness in life that will stay with you forever? Then please consider 6 biblical truths that will afford you real joy and happiness.

1) Why am I here?

Jeremiah 9:23-24 reads “So says Jehovah, Do not let the wise glory in his wisdom, nor let the mighty glory in his might; do not let the rich glory in his riches; but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am Jehovah, doing kindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth; for in these I delight, says Jehovah.”

The God of creation made us for his own glory and it delights Him that we should know Him. As Jeremiah mentioned, the true purpose and meaning of life can only be realized in knowing God, and this occurs when we come to know His kindness, judgment, and righteousness.

2) What is my obligation?

In Mark 12:30-31 it states: “… and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength." This is the first commandment. And the second is like this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.”

These are non-negotiable commandments given to us by God to devote our lives to His glory, and they can only be obeyed through the gift of faith.

3) Have I met my obligation for God’s Glory?

In Romans 3:23, Paul said that “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

What does it mean to fall short of the glory of God?  It means that no one has trusted and obeyed God the way they should. We do not seek satisfaction in His person and thus do not live in the way He requires. Instead, we pursue pleasures and values that temporarily satisfy us, and this offends God.

The Bible says in Jeremiah 2:13 “my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water.”

4) What is the penalty for this self-love and disobedience?

Paul writes in Romans 1:18 “For the wrath of God is revealed from Heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness…”  The consequences for suppressing the truth of Scripture, and our rejection of Jesus Christ as our only means of satisfaction is a terrible penalty of being excluded from all eternal blessings. This separation comes in the form of being sent to hell.  We read in 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 of hell where, “flaming fire takes vengeance on those who do not know God and who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power.”

Hell is mentioned eleven times by Jesus Christ in the New Testament and this dreadful place is not a fabrication of doom-saying preachers. It is a solemn warning delivered by Jesus Christ who came to earth to die for repenting sinners. To ignore this solemn warning is perilous.

5) If I am guilty of willful disobedience to God, do I have any hope?

I Timothy 1:15 reads “Faithful is the Word and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” Here is our only hope. The word “gospel” means “good news” and the good news is that Christ Jesus came to save sinners through his life, death and resurrection. In his life he fulfilled the full requirements of God’s expectations, and in his death He paid the penalty for sinners’ transgressions of the law. Thus Christ was raised from the dead giving life to all who would believe in Him (Romans 3:25-26).

We read of this wonderful truth further in (I Peter 3:18) “For Christ also once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, indeed being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the Spirit.” There is now no more sacrifice required for sin; because Christ died only once and died for all that the Father has given him (John 6:37).

6) What can I do?

Christ has done it all; He has satisfied the full requirements of the law. We can enjoy the benefits purchased by His death if God brings us to repentance of our sins and grants us the gift of faith in Jesus Christ. In (Acts 3:19; 16:31) “Therefore repent and convert so that your sins may be blotted out...Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved.”

To repent means to turn from your sins and turn to the promises that are in Christ!! Faith means that we are satisfied with the promises that God has for us in Christ. Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life” and “no one comes to the Father but by me” (John 14:6).

In (John 6:35) Jesus promises that “He who believes in me shall never thirst”. We can never merit or earn our salvation nor is it something that comes from within our sinful and selfish souls; rather “it is a free gift through the grace of God.” (Romans 4:4-5; Ephesians 2:8-9).

In (John 10:28) Jesus said, “… I give to them eternal life, and they shall never ever perish, and no one shall pluck them out of My hand.” This is the only real hope for man!

Do you desire the deep satisfaction and joy that God has for you in Jesus? Then God is working in your life. If you have come to understand this message, and are being convinced of your sin, then we urge you to turn from the deceitful promises of sin and self and call upon Jesus to save you from your guilt. The Bible teaches that “All who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved” (Romans 10:13).

Dear friend, put all your trust in Jesus and he will deliver you from the bondage of sin. Take out that dusty Bible and begin reading it to find the happiness that only God can provide for your life, and join us as at Living Faith as we stand for the truth of the Bible and begin to worship God with other believers who adore Him and cling to His precious & eternal promises.
