Living Faith's Chronological Reading Plan
As found in the 1689 London Baptist Confession of Faith, we at Living Faith believe “The Holy Scripture is the only sufficient, certain, and infallible rule of all saving knowledge, faith, and obedience”. We are commanded to learn the scriptures (Col 3:16), to grow in the knowledge of the Lord (2 Peter 3:18), meditate on the scriptures (Josh 1:8), and teach our children the Scripture (Deut 11:18-19).
About the chronological plan:
We will be reading the Bible in chronological order starting January 1st, 2024.
What is a chronological plan?
Reading in Chronological order means that you are unfolding the story of Scripture in order of when events took place in history, rather than the order they are presented in the Bible. That means you will not simply read cover-to-cover, but will flip around, reading passages together such as 1 Samuel 18-20 with Psalms 11 and 59; or reading James sandwiched between Acts 14-15.
Why read Chronologically?
By seeing the story of redemption unfold in the order in which it happened, you can gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the content and significance of each story, while gaining a firmer foundation of Biblical knowledge.
Reading the Bible in chronological order can help to highlight the interconnectedness of its various parts. By seeing how the stories and events of the Old Testament connect to and foreshadow those of the New Testament, you can gain a better understanding of the overall narrative of the Bible. Reading the Bible in chronological order can help you to see the progress and growth of God's plan throughout history.
As you read the stories of the Old Testament, you can see the big picture of God's plan for salvation and how it was gradually revealed and fulfilled in the coming of Jesus Christ.
