Happy Independence Day!
The gospel is spreading in Warsaw
Hello everyone! My parents returned from Warsaw on the 8th with many testimonies of the Lord’s continued work in the lives of the refugees. During their stay in the hotel my dad led a Bible study with many people who had never heard the gospel explained in detail before. There were a group of 5 to 6 individuals who after hearing the Gospel clearly presented, wanted to learn more. They continued to meet with my dad and began to read the Bible and pray regularly. One lady specifically, Tatyana shared that she could not go a day without reading her bible. They acknowledged their sin and understood the Gospel. Please pray for that the Lord works in their hearts as they move on to different parts of this world.
Also be praying for two young kids, David(13) and Daniel(12). They got to know my dad during his stay there. Dad bribed them into reading the bible to know more about the Daniel and David of the bible. When they first started reading they did it only to get the little gifts promised by my dad. After reading several chapters both David and Daniel got really excited and burned through the rest of the stories on their own.
We were able to raise over 10K dollars in The Hope for Ukraine fund. Most of this money was used to buy tickets for the volunteers that we are sending to work in the hotel. All of the people we are sending are Christians who speak both Russian and English and are able to serve the people there but mainly to preach the Gospel to them.
Finally be praying for Mason. Many of you have met him, He has been visiting LFBC for some time now. He will be flying out the 29th and will be spending 12 days serving in the hotel. Pray his time there is a blessing to our admin team and the refugees. Make sure to encourage Mason and let him know you will be praying for him.
The Lord continues to provide!
Good Afternoon Everyone,
The Lord continues to work in Warsaw. I know I say that every update but I have no idea how else to say it. May all credit and glory go only to him.
A few weeks ago several volunteers from a bank in NE went to Volunteer at the hotel. The CEO of that Bank just committed to paying for another full month of rooms, extending our work through at least the end of August. Our brother, Mr A, is absolutely crushing it as the admin of the hotel. He has already implemented changes that are continuing to allow this ministry to be effective and efficient. One of the issues that we have been trying to resolve is housing for him and his family. Yesterday the director of OSHU offered to help support Mr A financially in addition to the current support we are giving him. The amount he offered covers the house that a realtor found that was one of the only options big enough to house Mr A, his family and the other 7 people (also refugees) that Mr A is caring for. Please continue to pray that the Lord sends volunteers who love the lord, speak english and Russian and have a heart to serve people. There have been several who have come through that were a huge blessing. Pray the Lord sends more. We specifically need people to fill dates in mid June and Early July. Pray for many of the refugees who have already left the hotel. Pray the seeds that were planted would grow and they be saved.
Thank you all for your support of this ministry.
It is a grace and blessing to see how God has chosen to work in Warsaw. More and more people have been able to hear the gospel and be served by our brothers and sisters who have gone to volunteer in Poland. Mr. A. has begun full time work in the hotel. This is a huge blessing. His skills as an administrator are coming through and the hotel is finally starting to operate in a smooth and efficient manner.
Follow up from Poland
Thank you everyone for your prayers. God has continued to work in Poland in ways that are truly amazing. I wanted to share how God answered our prayers…
An update from Poland
Hello, from Poland. When I shared about my trip to Poland, I spoke about how things continually evolved when we arrived here last time. This has continued to be the case as God makes clear what our purpose is in being here and how we are to continue serving in Poland.
Th last several weeks, my partner and I spent a couple days trying to locate and lock down a cheaper rate for a hotel that would be funded and ran through LFBC. The rates I was getting back were higher than expected and the bigger problem was the availability was not there. A mid-June start date seemed to be more difficult. I called Mr. G (OSHU) to discuss flights for some of the volunteers. Remember our agreement with him was to help run his organization until the end of June. We then spoke about what to do past June with the existing hotel. OSHU has continued to raise more and more financial support. They have enough funds to extend the current rooms through July. I proposed that we, as a church would run the Hotel as we saw fit while they payed for the rooms. He quickly agreed to this. At their latest meeting with the support they are receiving it seemed possible to let this run for the foreseeable future. This allows us to spend the money that we have raised to pay for the tickets of the volunteers that we send, but more importantly to use that money to plant a church.
Please pray for the following things:
The war in Ukraine has displaced millions of people, especially women and children. Many of these refugees have fled to Poland. The Polish government and general population have gone through great lengths to house and care for the Ukrainians. Warsaw alone has had about 500,000 refugees enter its city. Their options for housing are very limited.
LFBC seeks to help women and children; most of whose husbands and fathers have stayed back in Ukraine to fight in the war or help as civilians.
Our goal is to rent hotel rooms to house the refugees.
This is temporary housing that gives the refugees the time and ability to find permanent housing and jobs or figure out where to go after Poland. The refugees that have had the ability to live in a hotel instead of the expo center have been significantly more successful in landing jobs and finding housing. Many of these women left Ukraine with nothing. We hope to provide for their immediate needs and basic necessities.
All of the money raised will directly provide housing for Ukrainian refugees in Poland.
We have also been able to build relationships with several doctors and catering services that are willing to provide medical care and meals to those who will be in the hotel, as well as a pastor who provides medical supplies to soldiers on the front lines.
Apart from the massive financial and physical need, the greatest need is spiritual. The beauty of providing for the physical needs of these people is the ability to share the Gospel with them. Through the darkest times we can point them to Christ. He alone can provide hope, peace, and comfort despite complete despair.
LFBC believes that the Lord works through the local church to bring about his purposes. The fundamental goal of LFBC is to assist in the planting of a church in Warsaw for the Ukrainian people. Prior to the war there was already a very large population of Ukrainians living in Warsaw. The need for a biblical church has only deepened as more Ukrainians have made Warsaw their home.
Pastor Daniel Gusev
Pastor Daniel was born in Kiev, Ukraine in 1991. His family migrated to California, following his father’s parents who had arrived several years prior. Currently, Daniel has a Grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins still in Ukraine. Some have been able to make it out and are currently in Poland. Others had to stay in Ukraine because they are men who are of fighting age. Pastor Daniel connected with an organization called Operation Safe Harbor Ukraine based out of Lincoln, NE; it was this organization that had the idea of renting out hotel rooms to house refugees. Daniel had the opportunity to go to Poland last month and be a part of OSHU. During his visit, he helped build the structure and operations of the organization. Coming back after that trip, he realized that there was a way to be more effective for Christ by replicating the same process through the Church.
